Some cameras offer a low light color enhancement mode which gives a
slow shutter, even though the shutter select doesn't give you anything
slow enough. It is worth checking the manual for other shooting
options, see if some setting will give you a slower shutter. You
don't need a really long one to get light trails -- 1/15 second is OK
(video runs 1/60 normally -- in NTSC, PAL is 1/50 and slow would be
1/12). Some cameras can do even longer shutter speeds (again, this is
a good thing for still pics primarily, because ordinarily you don't
want to have light blurring; also, CCDs don't accumulate light exactly
like film so you can't do the same sort of extended exposure tricks).
