I'm having a problem with a mobo, it doesn't want to start up at all. When I push the power button a little LED comes on right by where the main power connects to the Mobo. I've tried looking in the manual to see what this means but I can't find it. The Mobo is GA-7VRXP (Gigiabyte), The HSF spins just a little bit then it stops and the light comes on. Any ideas?

Do you mean the power button or the power switch? The power switch on a power supply does NOT turn on the system, it only enables the power button. Normally turning on the power switch only causes an LED to come on for the motherboard (indicating it's ready to be turned on) and the fans spin for 1-3 seconds.

No I mean the actual Mobo itself. The main power wires that run from the power supply to the mobo there is a small LED that lights up when I try to turn the computer on right next to the connection. I can't seem to find out what the LED means.

Which revision is your mainboard?

The LED probably is the memory power LED which indicates the memory is powered on if it burns.

I think you might have a problem with your power supply. Which brand is it?

I'm guessing that if your fans spin briefly and shut back off when you hit the POWER BUTTON on the front of the case, your motherboard is probably shorted to the case.

It might also have something to do with the case-mainboard plugs. Is it a new system, or dit the problem appear in a working system?
As Crashman sais, might of course also be a ground problem and like you say, maybe mainboard, lets hope its not.

It was a working system, then I guess it just shut off one day. Its my moms computer and I don't live with her so I wasn't there when it happened. I actually had the same problem with my brothers computer but his would stay on for a few secconds. Found out it was the psu. Anyways, on my mom's computer, the hsf just barely spins then the LED turns on.

Default the BIOS and see what happens. Still nothing? Pull all the power supply connectors and bridge pin 13 and 14 on the 20 pin plug with a paper clip. Power supply turn on? Pull motherboard and look at the bottom underneath the voltage regulators. Burned solder? Any capacitors with puffed up or domed tops?

The psu works becuase I am currently using it on my brothers computer. When the capacitors are bad, is it noticable? Some look sort of domed compared to the other ones though its kind of hard to tell.

I replaced the mobo. The capacitors were bad, looking at it at eye level you could see some had blown. Unfortunatley the computer still doesn't work. I even changed the psu. I'm thinkiing it was hit by a power surge although it is on a surge protector. I'm taking it in today to have a diagnostics done on it. Thanks for the help!
