Limited Connectivity Issue

My laptop suddenly won't connect to the internet. It's receiving a "Limited Access" message and when troubleshooting, it cannot find the problem. Doesn't seem to change with Ethernet connection either. This has happened a few times in the last few weeks and I'm not sure what's causing it but it's really inconvenient.

I've restarted the router and laptop, ip config/release and renew but nothing has changed. The Wi-Fi does works on every other device fine. Anyone have an idea on what it could be?

HP Pavilion g7
Windows 8
AT&T U-Verse internet
Motorola NVG589 modem

I've also been using McAfee SecurityCenter and Advanced SystemCare Pro for years without any issue.

If you need more details please be specific and tell me the quickest way to obtain the info thanks!

I would try setting your DNS manually. Do this via Ethernet cable first.

Go into the LAN connection properties, keep everything as automatic and try changing the primary DNS; using the Google DNS of 8.8.8.8, you may not require a secondary at this time.

See if it improves your connectivity. If it works, then your ISP DNS is bad, and you might want to change it manually within your router configuration so that it will use google's DNS when on WiFi and Ethernet cable.

Google's public DNS are 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

Once you have changed the DNS manually, At the command line, type the following commands:

ipconfig /release (enter)
ipconfig /flushdns (enter)
ipconfig /renew (enter)
I have had this problem a plenty and there is no single sure solution. From wifi adapter to router settings.
But try this: using the connection from other device, to ensure the problem is not your laptop. I usually use wifi connection from my phone.

I can actually connect my laptop to my hotspot on my phone with no problems. This is odd, I can connect every other device in my house to the wifi and it works just fine but not my laptop. Could it be a driver or something? I really need this laptop connected more than anything else in the house.. Please help! Thanks!

I know you said you restarted the router, but have you tried to hard-reset your router to factory default? My second guess is the settings preventing you from accessing it.
Otherwise, perhaps try to change the MAC address (you need to know the valid pattern address for your wifi).

Since you have said that it only appears to be affecting your laptop...

Have you tried removing the saved WiFi profile from your laptop, and searching for it again? I have had instances in the past when this was an issue, and removing the saved wifi profile, then re-scanning for it, and re-entering the password helped to resolve.
