Hi Everyone,

I've been browsing the forum and reading articles to figure out what components to buy for my upgrade. I've got the list pretty much complete, except for Mobo and RAM (and probably the power supply).

I'm looking for 4GB(4x1GB) RAM and a Mobo for the new E6750 (1333 FSB), and I need suggestions!

I also would like the Mobo to be able to handle PC-8500. I've had the GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3R recommended by a few people, but my main concern about this is being able to get PC-8500 RAM in the future. Currently, the GA-P35-DS3R lists that only certain modules of PC-8500 is supported, and when I go to their site to get the list, the PDF I download has a blank first page, and second page is a list of supported DRR2 677. (http://www.gigabyte.us/FileList/MemorySupport/motherboard_memory_ga-p35-ds3r.pdf)

Also, I'm not sure if XION is a quality power supply (and I really know nothing about them), so if there is something better that I should consider, please say so. (Oh, and I'm trying to keep the mobo around $150 or less, if possible.)

Here is my current list (going into an Antec Sonata Case):

■CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 Conroe

■Video: SAPPHIRE Radeon X1950XT 256MB GDDR3

■Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16822148140
■Power Supply: XION Supernova XON-600F14R-201 ATX12V 600W

■?? Mobo ??

■?? RAM: Patriot eXtreme Performance 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800

I will probably try to do some minimal OC'ing, but not too far b/c I've never done it before. One last thing, if I'm doing any OC'ing, do I need to buy another fan?

Ok, any suggestions are greatly appreciated!!

I figured as much. So, considering my setup, should I be looking for something in the 500-600W range, or the 600-700W range?

Since you are looking at just the X1950XT, yes 600-700W is more than enough. If you are looking to OC and maybe upgrade to a DX10 card in the future, I would look into a trusted supplier's 750W PSU. Any of the guys mentioned by jtt283 would do fine.

Always plan for upgrades imo. Especially for DX10 if you don't have it yet, as most games from now on will be geared towards it.

For motherboard, I think you should stick to the Gigabyte GA P35 DS3R. If you want 1066Mhz RAM, go ahead and buy it. Here is some Crucial for $160 :

If the Gigabyte 965 DS3 supports 1066 RAM, I don't see why the P34 DS3R would not. I would stick with PC6400 myself. Something like what you have chosen.

officially Intel don't claim PC8500 support for P35 which is why some companies like abit don't claim it either.
In reality of course it will run it.
