Locked Blank Desktop

Archived from groups: microsoft.public.windowsxp.general (More info?)

I have a Dell Laptop. The desktop shows only the wallpaper. Cannot right
click to "show icons". The only way to access anything is to run explorer.exe
through the task manager. Please someone tell me how to restore the desktop.
Going through task manager is reallly not so good.

Not sure about XP but this would happen sometimes in W2K, due to a
program not finishing loading (or not exiting).

In the taskmanager look for an odd file running, (I forget the name of
my file, I think it started with a U) - then end the process, if it's
the correct one, windows will finish loading and your desktop appear.

Any time (which were very few) this happen'd, it would fix itself and
reboot fine the next time.

Hi Zofo61

Try this fix from MVP Kelly's site,
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Go to line 195, right-hand side, and download Restore Desktop Icons and
Taskbar. There are instructions at the top of the page on how to run the
file.
