[SOLVED] Logitech M570 Pointer Only Not Working

I've had this Logitech M570 for well over a year now. It has been plugged into a desktop Dell computer at work. I just transitioned to a new company and have been issued a Lenovo Thinkpad. When I plug the dongle (latest drivers are installed) in all the buttons and the scroll wheel operate...but the ball no longer moves the pointer. A wired optical mouse works just fine as soon as it is plugged in.

Has anyone experienced something like this before? Any thoughts?

I'll leave this here in case it helps someone else, but I found it. Removing the physical ball revealed an obstruction inside the recess where the motion detecting sensor resides. I suspect that dirt and grime built up over time and possibly got dislodged during the move.
