Okay, I thought I was done and I apologize for my flip-flopping, but this should be my last question (I want to order today!)
I read on another board that this would be a far better package than the Q8200

Keeping the RAM, PSU, case, OS and periopherals the same, would you agree, FullMetal (or anyone?).

I read through benchmarks and this chip seem to out-perform the Q8200 almost every time. I alos understand this board to be far superiorto what I have with the 8200 package.

If this is right, then I am ordering. if not, I will order the Q8200 package.

thanks for your patience

x3 720BE is a mid-range mainly gaming cpu, yes it has 3 cores but, the Q8200 is a quad core, can be used for gaming if needed but, not mostly for gaming.

As to where, you don't do any gaming at all, its a computer for work use? yes?

For what you do, either chip would be fine with the build but, i still take quad over it

too many choices. I am about to justnpull thn trigger. my current system is so freekin' old that I will be happy with ANYHTING.

The xe3 - without the 4th core unlocked and without overclocking - seems to out perfomr the 8200 on almost everything I use: Photoshop, DVD/CD processing; video conversion, web srufing via Firefox, CAd.
How about unlocking the 4th core and overclocking?

The X4 look great, and I know it's about the best, but what about that board? Is Biostar good? I mentioned my problem with that brand, but that was 5 years ago so maybe it's time for me to try them again. How does it compare to the MA790GP?

Gigabyte is always going to be a better board over biostar, i've had a couple biostars myself. If you want to keep the price down, go with the 720BE, you wont lose anything, you will only gain on everything.

thanks, fullmetal.
Tha's the combo I referenced in the post a few up. Seesm that chip is really good and has the possibility of unlokcing that 4th core. Time will tell if it's stable that way or not (I can' wait). Then, leter I can buy the X4 or whatever and slap it into the Gigabyte board. thanks for all of your help. I believe I am going with the X3.

When all is said and done, it's only a $40 difference. I am already over budget with the PSU and some other things I forgot, otherwise I would just byu the X4.

By the way, my current system is a P4 2.4 with 1gb RAM - so you can guess the improvements I will see wiht any new chip

yes, I don't want to build something that I will be disappointed with down the road. if I have a good board, at least I can upgrade the processor and whatnot later. and the performance gain by the X3 will make me happy for a while I am sure.

thanks again for your help and patience.
