Hello,

I have a Yamaha YHT-4950u receiver at the moment. I think its ok, but sometimes the video will lag when im watching my Firestick max through the unit. I also think its just a little lacking for sound.

My speakers are Jamo S 809 , I have the full 5.1 setup but I also want to add the Dolby Atmos speakers. This is currently not possible with the Yamaha.

I really do not know exactly what I should get, I keep reading but am getting lost with so many options. Not looking to break the bank but not afraid to spend some money on something worth it.
Really appreciate any direction someone with more knowledge in this than me can offer.

Right now I have my amazon stick, Xbox, PS4 etc plugged directly into the unit, and HDMI ARC to my TV. (I lost the ability for my tv remote to control my yamaha receiver, not sure if thats my LG tv fault or Yamaha)

THANK YOU!

Over the years I have tried a ot of TVs and surround sound systems using Yamaha, Sony, And Denon AVRs. many times changing as I chased the never ending new ability features as we progressed into the various HDMI standards. Of course being a frugal buyer I had the never ending most bang for the buck desire. Right now and last 2 AVRs were Denon brand and specifically the low (er) cost offerings with ARC and now eArc. My current AVR-S760H was sourced for $499 and does every thing you seem to need. My main room TV is a typical 55" smart tv (these days most have eArc and too may audio standards to discuss. My method is to create lists of REQUIRED and NOT WANTED features. That usually eliminates a lot of choices.

I use the AVr to deliver 7.1 surround and quite frankly the acoustics on any listening /viewing environment and your placement and calibrating any 5.1/2 or 7.1/2 speaker system is key. IMO the HEOS stuff is a fad and I have not found any movies that we like that this feature really exploits that my 7.1 system does not already fill. That said my personal gold standard for really good surround sound testing in my 14 wide by 16 deep (so called ) theater room...is day of thunder when Duval is bitching out Tom Cruise as the field races in the back ground. the editors placed me and wife in the pits as the cars zoomed through all 4 turns> I have been to a few theaters (CinaMax) that did not create the same experience ...no matter how violently loud they were ( a dig at why I no longer go to any theater, they are just too damned loud for my 68 year old ears) BTH I am a big fan of a Canadian company for my surround speaker system. Back when I bough they we neophyte company and mine were made to speck with a sales man. Now they just sell great speakers that work well for the buck https://www.fluance.com/home-theater-systems/
