Looking for a nostalgic ROM

Hi all

like 15 years ago, I was playing that game every day after school, one buck
for 45 minutes of fun! getting better and better.
Just now, I have no idea how that game was called anymore.
I'll try to describe it a bit

The first level was a worm driving around in the screen. The player is a
spaceship in the boarder of the screen (not scrollable). The spaceship can
fill rectangulare figures by releasing the button, drawing rectangular
lines and connecting back to an already existing line. If the worm hits the
line being drawn before the line was finalized (like connected to an
existing line), one life was lost. If the worm did not hit, then a
percentage of the screen (of the size of the rectangular) was taken away
from the worm (the built rectangular got filled with texture). When the
worm had only 20% of the screen left, the level was won. Of course, the
goal was to fill up as much as 99.*% of the screen to get as many points as
possible.

Anyone recalls the name of this game?

Gal's Panic, or perhaps Miss Nude World '96?

So Qix is the original? According to the screenshot I just found, this is
the type of game, but I'm definitely looking for one of the "clones" with
much nicer gfx.

Well, its documented as 1981. It is certainly the one I grew up with. I
had never seen another game of this type until I found MAME.

Was anything at all revealed under the surrounded areas or were they
just colored boxes?

Go here:

http://www.mameworld.net/maws

and search for QIX.
Select that game and scroll to the bottom of the page to see games of
that genre, clicking each name will bring you to the corresponding page
which should have a screenie for you.
