I just want explanation for whats responsible for the lag whether it be my entire system, or one component, or the game/s

Games with problems:

  • Rust - Drops to 5 fps on any population lvl server at lowest settings

Far Cry 4 - At max settings drops to 20 fps... I think? Still struggles at medium.

Insurgency - Drops to 45 fps in heavy areas

Fallout 4, Skyrim, Fallout NV, Fallout 3 - Consistently struggle at maintaining 60 fps

Grand Theft Auto 5 - Technically struggles but 45 fps feel more bearable in GTA 5.

These are rough estimates from what I remember from playing.
Goal:

  • - 60 fps avg / lowest fps
    - Settings: Near Ultra

If you blame hardware I would prefer a idea on what to replace it with or what to look for.

My Specs:

- AMD FX - 6300 Six-Core
- RAM: 12.0 GB
- GPU: Nvidia GeForce 960 4G
- Lastly I use two standard hard drives.

Solution
Replace the CPU with an Intel i5. If you are using 3 4GB RAM sticks, get rid of one to make the RAM run in full dual channel or add another one. The 960 video card is not the best but the CPU is the biggest issue to running many newer games.
