First time builder here. I'm looking to either buy a asus g750jz or build a complete pc with the same or better specs. I'll mainly be using it for photoshop, music editing and some gaming (Elder scrolls) my budget is around 2500. Mobility isn't that important to me just performance. Should I just buy the laptop or would the desktop be a better choice. Thanks for any ideas. :)

Solution
Revised my list and added a nice IPS monitor and there's still plenty left for you to pick a mouse and keyboard you like.

CPU: Intel Core i7-4930K 3.4GHz 6-Core Processor ($529.99 @ Micro Center)
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D14 SE2011 CPU Cooler ($74.99 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: Asus P9X79 ATX LGA2011 Motherboard ($229.99 @ Amazon)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws Z Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory ($162.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($129.99 @ Amazon)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($83.98 @ Amazon)
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon R9 290...
A desktop would easily outperform the laptop at that budget. It will be a great gamer and I overkilled a couple areas for the music editing and photoshop.

Hovering between laptop and desktop means that mobility is an issue for you. Anyways a desktop for that money would destroy that laptop...
I would give some parts but some more information is needed.
First of all do you do you need monitor-OS-keyboard mice. Do you professionaly edit photos?(i ask this because some panels are not the best for that) . Are you generally into gaming or just elder scrolls, you might spend more than $700 for gpus on this built. You are ok with that or do you think it will be a waste of money? Sorry for the questions, this is supposed to be an answer.

PS. The system bignasyid proposed is really nice...

Wow, thank you for the quick suggestions. Yes I would need a monitor and m&k. Not into heavy gaming just a couple of shooters and Elder scrolls. And yes I would need a quality monitor as I do edit on the side. Once again thank you for the responses. And I just figured that the asus 750 would just be a all in one package.
