Thank everyone in advance who took their time to read thru this and respond, you are amazing!
On to the issue at hand..
I really need to upgrade my whole pc asap because 750ti and i5-4460 are really not enough for me anymore and i'm having a debate with myself about what GPU to buy. The rest of components i figured out but for the sake of me i can't decide on the GPU and i don't think I can wait for the next gen GPU's. The setup will be used for gaming at 1440p, 144hz monitor.
I can choose between multiple 1070 ti's, 1080 ti's(no zotac and asus) and rtx's along with gigabyte 2080 ti. Money is not that big of an issue, i have around 5000$ budget. The reason i'm asking and didn't go "omg RTX, must have...drool..." is because looking at the games supporting raytracing i can only find 1 or maybe 2 that i would play and i've spent my whole gaming life being low-mid budget buyer and i'm not used to extremely good graphics and fps and also because like a lot of things in life, first introduction of new tech doesn't go without its problems. Im from Croatia so online buying is not an option because when all is said and done it would cost me the same as IT stores charge here but with a lot more work and time consumption.
The rest of the pc will look like this:
CPU: i7-8700k
Mobo: Gigabyte Z370 Aorus Gaming 7
PSU: Corsair RM750x
Case: Fractal Design Meshify C TG Light
CPU cooler: Noctua nh-d15s
SSD: Samsung 970 Evo 500gb
HDD: WD 1TB blue 7200rpm
RAM: Corsair Vengance LPX black 2x8gb, 3200 mhz, CL 16
Monitor: Acer Predator XB271HUbmiprz, 27" WQHD IPS
Again, thanks to everyone, I know this was a lengthy post but i thought you should have all the info you could need. Cheers!

im in the same boat, got the cash but ray tracing's not a thing yet so no point buying rtx as 1080ti's can support 4k gaming

my only debate is whether to get 1080ti or 1080 and sell in 2 years and get whatever comnes after 2080

Yeah, the time to upgrade is awful. Unfortunately i dont know if ill be able to upgrade again in the next 4-5 years and that just makes this choice a hell of alot harder.
