I am looking for the quietest fans that generate the most CFM. They are going to be used as intake / exhaust fans in my next build and I really want this build to be ultra quiet. Ideally i'd like them to be completely silent from where i'll be sitting ( about 1m ) and provide a combined CFM of 65-70 or more.

I was thinking Noctua NF-P12 , has it seems to have good reviews, however there are soooooo many other models of fan out there and i have ZERO experience with computer fans, basically as i was saying , i just want quiet fans, ill most likely buy 1 or 2.

The case i have only has 120mm mounting holes so im limited to 120mm fans.
Actually, i know there is the 140mm Noctua NF-P14 FLX that has a adapter to make it mountable on 120mm holes, however I am not sure if A) this fan is quieter dans the 120mm one, and B) if it will fit in my case as im guessing the depth of the fan should be bigger since it is 140mm ....

Thanks for your suggestions !

check out the video of it..its really quite and pushes a good amount of air

I love this fan because it's dust proof, water proof and easy to clean and it pushes a good amount of air.

There's also another version of it thats's 600-1800 rpm 75.6cfm 10-26db

My 2nd option would be the Noctua nf-p12

Can't go wrong with either one

I just bought 3 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835185058 and love them. they are the quietest fans I have ever used and push an appropriate amount of air. newegg lists 68 CFM and i believe that is accurate. I also purchased 3 zalman fan controllers for those fans, but ended up not using them because the fans were so quiet even at full power. so especially if you undervolt the fans, these have my vote.

in short, my hard drives are louder than these fans and I have normal 7200 rpm hard drives.

good luck.

I tried a lot of different fans before the Gentle Typhoons, including the Scythe S-flex and Slipstreams. Nothing else I tried was as quiet or moved as much air for the same RPMs.

For comparison a -14 GT sounds similar to a low speed Yate Loon but moves more air. Same goes for a -13 GT compared to a Nexus Real Silent, which is basically just a rebadged YL running at lower RPMs.

I never tried the Noctua fans though, they were too expensive. If you go that route be aware they make 2 different types. The more traditional looking blade design can be used anywhere. The other is quieter but shouldn't be used in places with significant obstruction to the airflow, like on a CPU.
