So my girlfriend's family managed to rescue their old Windows XP machine that has about 3 years worth of pictures on it that they want off. I managed to get the PC to boot up once, but once I turned it off, it just won't boot properly anymore, no matter what I did. I thought maybe I could just remove the hard drive and plug it in to my windows 11 computer to swap the pictures onto my pc, but I want to know if that'll do anything to my PC. The initial screen when booting mentions that the hard drive disc is failing, and reccomends backing it up and replacing it asap, so that's what worries me. If it would put my PC at risk, there's a pc tech shop not far from where I live that I can ask to try and get the pictures salvaged. Any help would be appreciated!

No, you wont damage your PC by putting in a failing hard drive. (unless the HDD is physically shorted or damaged)
Although, you attempting to recover the stuff and making it worse is possible.
Taking it to a data recovery expert if you don't know what you're doing is recommended.
