Hi all.

I currently have a ATI HD 6670 2gb, and I'm looking to upgrade for christmas. However, I'm having a bit of trouble with finding out whether or not my PC can power it.

I have a AMD FX-4170 which is overclocked at 4.0Ghz (maybe 4.4Ghz).

I'm looking to get a PowerColor HD 6870 1GB GDDR5 Dual DVI Dual Mini DisplayPort HDMI PCI-E Graphics Card

If you guys could help me out on whether or not my PC could power it, I'd really appreciate it.

Thank you in advance.

Yeah, I don't know if you can hold out longer, but the 8000 series will be here in March, most likely causing another price drop. Otherwise a 7870/7850 is a great choice. Post your specs and it should help clarify if you need a new psu or not.

Okay, so lets say we go for the 7850.

My Specs are:
AMD FX-4170 (OC to 4.0Ghz or 4.4Ghz)
AMD HD6670 (2GB)
8GB ram
I'm not sure what PSU i have :S, but on the back all it says is "AC 230V" I think it may be 500W but really not sure 🙁

Thanks for the replies so far guys

Okay, I'll check it out tomorrow, I have to get some sleep :)

Thanks for the help so far guys :) I really do appreciate it.

When you get around to finding the label and it's a no name meaning it's a budget unit, I highly recommend buying a good quality PSU. Wattage doesn't really matter you could have a 1000watt PSU but if it's made cheaply it will not output anywhere near that stated amount and most likely cause problems (Blue screens, freezing etc) and or damage parts.

Okay, We'll I've had a look at my PSU (Not much of a look though, could barely see anything lol). And its a 500W. any ideas?

Please check a little more and see if its got a brand listed somewhere.

I couldn't see any brand name. However, I'm pretty sure it only have one lead for pci-e maybe i'm wrong. But is there cheap PSU's which could do the job?, I don't mind getting a new one aswell as its not too much (say £30 or below).

Thanks.
