Question Looking to upgrade old build, not trying to spend a ton of money. What are my options?

Processor - Intel(R) Core (TM) i5-6600K CPU @ 3.50GHz 3.50 GHz
Installed RAM - 8.00 GB
System type 64-bit operating system
GPU - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960
Storage - 1 TB HD, 222 GB SSD


Very out of date, I know. I'd love to be able to run games and mix/ record music to a higher performance level.
As for budget, for now I'll say 300-500$

What PSU do you have? It may be about time for a PSU also.

This is just one option that will get you more gaming performance. You could then save up for a new CPU/Mobo/RAM combo.

Are you entirely opposed to buying a new PC? Because for $500 you can almost get something very decent. Certainly more powerful than your existing PC.

Where are you buying? The US?

New RAM and a faster SSD aren't going to dramatically increase performance. An i7 will give you a little bump but not much, and nothing compared to a new $500 PC.
