Low performance on high(ish)-end system.

Greetings, Hardware-ians!

So I obtained a copy of Crysis recently, full of confidence, installed it, went to it's Very High settings instantly, set at 1920x1200 pixels, and ran the game.

But lo and behold, a brilliant framerate of about 15 fps greeted me. This, ofcourse, bugged me slightly, so I proceeded in updating the game, as well as my drivers. This improved the issue, but still doesn't make the game properly playable. FPS stayed at 15-20ish at the harder bits to render.

Now I understand that Crysis is a hard nut to crack, but with my system, it should run fine! I'll give you the rundown of it, now.

- Core 2 Quad Q9550 Yorkfield, 2,833 GHz, Scythe Mugen attached. I could OC this without incident, but I like a longer CPU life.
- Asus P5-Q Pro Mobo.
- 4GB corsair DDR2-800, 4-4-4-12
- WD 1TB HD. 8,9/32/7400. I think.
- Cooler Master 700W PSU
- Sapphire HD5870 Vapor-X 1GB crossfire'd.
- Antec 900 Case.
- Windows 7 Pro 64-bit.

Catalyst version 11.8

Also, trying a 3dmark test resulted in very low scores. Even at 1280x720 it barely went over 60fps in any of the bits.

I've allready checked my hardware temperatures. They don't exceed 65C. Ever.

So I was wondering wether I have an incredible CPU bottleneck, or is something else the matter?

I did read that review. It states a similar setup to yield about 50 fps without AA on my GPU setup. Mine are even OC'd slightly.

Ofcourse, my CPU is slower than their tested one, but I can hardly believe a difference of 25-35 fps is caused by JUST the CPU. Also, I dont think a stock Q9550 is all that slow.

Could I have a lack of PSU power? My maxed power usage is under it's maximum delivered power, but it's a close call. If not, please inform me if there's other issues that could cause this.

A weak PSU can cause a crash, but I've never seen one cause a slowdown. You are correct; a Q9550 should provide performance that's close an i7 when using the same GPUs. Have you checked the performance when using a single GPU?

No, they're all fine except the PSU.

CoolerMaster PSUs are bad except their Silent Pro series.

You'd be fine with a Corsair or Antec 750W PSU if thats the culprit.

Thanks for reply'ing again.

I have yet to check performance after disabling the second GPU, will try that as soon as I get back, in 1 week. (Felt it to be a good idea to let this thread simmer with as many comments as possible, so I could find a general concensus in there).

The PSU, btw, is a Silent Pro. Silent Pro 700W, that is. But as long as it isn't a powerissue, that shouldn't be the problem. Thanks for the comment, though.

The initial question was wether or not the discrepancy between any benchmarks I've found and my actual performance is due to hardware problems, bugs, conflicts, driverfailures or whichever kind of gobbledegook.
