HI guys, thanks for reading this post.. Does anyone have any ideas. I am into racing sims so i built a comp to play "Race" at 1600x1200 res. using the following..
winxp sp2
asus p5b mobo
intel e6600
nvidia 7950 gx2 (1 gig)
2 gig ddr2 ram
antec neo 500 psu
200 gig cavier hd

A stable system using all the latest drivers!!!!

Rubbish frame rates in most racing sims ? infact worse than my old system
I am at a loss ? getting 6-8 frames/sec at 1280x1024 no max detail. Help Please..... 🙁

install latest chipset drivers, sound drivers, video drivers.
make sure the game isnt having a hissy fit on dual core by limiting it with the taskmanager to running on 1 core only.
also failing that maybe try resetting the bios back to defaults or running the game at 1024x768 with minimal graphics details... just to see if its still runny crappy.

.

Can you please detail on that ? I've ordered the same proc&MB and since I'm not sure how this dual core works or how it may be limited in different applications,I'm trying to understand more.Thx.

So, let me get this straight; You wanted a "stable" system and yet you bought a 7950GX2? Let me know how that works out... And 1600x1200 is pretty nice.

As for the awful frame rates? It is the 7950GX2.

HE HE Yes it is a stable system even with this gx2 . Tell me more, i thought the 7950 gx2 would give me good frame rates at 1600x 1200 , im not getting them at 1280x1024 ? surely the card isnt that bad ? .......

thankyou for your input , Yes all the latest drivers are in. video, mobo, chipset etc etc. checking the cpu usage ? using task manager in winxp sp2 shows only one cpu usage ......

thanx for the input yes my temps are all good. I did wonder about the psu. maybe i need 600w psu ?

Definitely wont be the psu- its got 3 12V rails with 17A load each. And your rig wont eat anywhere like 500w total. Plus, power issues dont tend to cause random fps issues- they usually manifest in blue screens.

Hmmm... the Dual Core fix could work but I would say that a regular 7900GTX would probably beat that GX2. I would have gone with an X1950XTX...

Damn I wish I could help.I will assemble my PC (same HW config mostly, but Radeon X1950pro card) next week so before that I cannot post impressions.
I dunno if this helps but here's what I found (really old topic, but all I can find is related to AMD Dual Cores and Nvidia Cards, nothing for Intel):

http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=983781

Also in some other blogs they were saying it's an Nvidia bug.And that you should get the latest dual core optimized drivers. But you say you already do.

I'm really interested in how this thread develops.

Thankyou for that Im running the gx2 an intel core 2 6600 2 gig 2 harddrives xfi gamer soundcard and a bog standard dvd drive (sony ?).... 500 watt is still probably ok...

Thanks again, Is there a fix for the E6600 ? Ithought it was just the amd cpu,s that it worked on ? Well you could be right , better frame rates on my old amd 3700 and 6800 gt !!! just seems odd !

thankyou I hope your build goes well, I am using an Intel cpu and intel P965 chipset , but i will read the blogs as suggested .

Hi !

I can't remember my old topic, lol, but I bookmarked this one.

I see no posts lately so I'm hoping everything is fine for you.

I had absolutely no problem with my setup, and the Radeon X1950pro is performing very, very well.

I've tried Company of Heroes and C&C3 with all settings maxed at 1280x1024 and the games play too fast ! It's a dream.

Like I said, hope you found the problem in your setup and solved it.

Many thanks from me to everyone that took their time to suggest different possible builds for me,apt403 on top of the list.
