Low score?

My computer scored 16233 in 3DMark 2001 SE. From other sources, I believe that this is too low in comparable machines to mine. Is there anything I can do to boost my score up higher to where it should be like around 18000-19,000 besides overclocking?

You don't mention what driver versions your running at the moment, also, have you installed the latest .inf file for your MoBo that alone will give you a performance hit as it includes yourr GART drivers.

For the FX cards, use the 44.03 drivers. Also, reinstall the motheboard drivers, and if you are running Windows XP, select Classic mode. Also restart system before benchmarking, and turn off any programs like firewalls and anti-virus programs. Try these things, and tell me if it makes a difference.

Basically be happy with what you have is the best advice. But if you really want high 3dmarks in 2001se, install the 4403 drivers. It will pick up from 1100-1500 3dmarks easy compared to those drivers. I should say, it does on Ti4200's. I have never tested a FX5900. But you will give up stability, game compatibility, and DX 9 performance using those drivers, so when you are through testing, go back to the new ones.

Is your MoBo the Asus P4C800-E Duluxe ? if so then here's the link http://www.asus.com.tw/support/download/item.aspx?ModelName=P4C800-E Deluxe and the software your after is Intel(R) Chipset Software Installation Utility V5.02.1003. which are your chipset drivers. Newer ones are most probably available over at the intel website.

if it's not your MoBo, then go here http://usa.asus.com/products/mb/mbindex.htm

find your baord, and have a look under the downloads area.

I installed the 44.03 drivers and my score went up to 17136. I guess I should go back to the 53.03.

Have you tweaked your bios?

Performance acceleration mode - Enabled
Hyperthreading enabled
Performance mode turbo
memory timings, etc.

You can usually gain alot of performance tweaking the bios. The amount depends greatly on the quality of your RAM. The defaults are slow but will work for the most amount of systems. If you are unfamiliar with the bios and uncomforatable making changes, read section 4-4 in you manual - Advanced Menu. Also know ahead of time how to put your system back to default incase changes you make make it unstable or unuseable. Not sure if an alt insert works on ASUS boards or just the jumper. But find this out before making radical changes in the bios.

A 900 point gain is not bad for just changing drivers. In order to get 18,000-19,000, you will need to overclock. You may be able to pick up some more points by changing your RAM settings like stated above.
