Hello.

I have LSI 9260-8i + SAS Expander RES2SV240.
My current scheme of connection HDDs.

My goal: create Raid array and make large logical disk D:\
It will be 63TB on start and I plan to expand it by adding new HDDs through expander.
My current LSI config utility.

Is it good idea?

I have WD Gold hdds.
# smartctl -l scterc /dev/sde
SCT Error Recovery Control:
Read: Disabled
Write: Disabled
I can setup timing using smartctl, but after shut down system these settings lost.
Does LSI make time settings or I need to setup time each time when OS start?

Thanks.

What raid are you trying to set up?

What make and model drives are you using?

https://docs.broadcom.com/doc/12353225says "controllers are limited to 16 drives and 64K stripe size. "

View: https://www.reddit.com/r/DataHoarder/comments/3nquk0/intel_raid_twentyfour_port_expander_card_res2sv240/
says "You need an HBA/RAID card for the expander to be useful at all. ... If your HBA/RAID card has 2 SAS ports, then you can still have 24 drives connected to your PC, 20 connected to the expander and 4 connected to the HBA. "
