My main board fired, so rather than replace and reuse,
it's time to upgrade going forward.

Are you guys seeing any advantages in FS9 using 1gig
of memory, over 512mbs?

Has anyone experienced any issues using a NVidia video
card (6600GT), on a VIA chipset board?

FWIW, already own Abit AV8 board and AMD 64 3000
in socket 939.

I now consider 1Gb RAM as the minimum for smooth simming with FS9.

For the default FS9, 512MB is fine. With all but the most complex set
of add-ons operating simultaneously, 768MB is all that's necessary. But with
the price of RAM so cheap, I'd just install the 1GB at the outset so's not
to have someting else to blame for the stutters 🙂 .

I appreciate the responses form both.
If I posed this question to someone who doesn't sim, they would say 1gig
of ram is only necessary if I do tremendous photo editing.

I have an old Geforce 4 card on a m/b with VIA chipsets and no associated
problems.

get some G.skill brand pc4400 memory sticks (or any other brand pc4400 that
uses Samsung tccd chips)
using this I overclocked my 939 3000+ 1.8Ghz Winchester core chip to 2.5Ghz.
Voltages were left at stock. Memory timings set at 2-3-3-7 and 1T command
rate. ht was set at 3 and htt was set at 278 1:1 ratio. I was actually
able to achieve 2.7 Ghz running the memory with looser timings and a 2T
command rate but I had to raise voltages and the system was not entirely
stable all the time.
