So this is a basic question actually. I am wanting to get a m.2 ssd 500 gb for my computer but I still want my storage and everything on my hard drive. So I know how to install it, once I install it what do I do?

Solution

For a pure game machine, I'd get a SATA based drive, instead of NVMe.
The m.2 Samsung 860 EVO or Crucial MX500.
Twice the size for the same money.

And for that use, you'd not see any difference.

What drives do you have now?

What motherboard do you use?
What do you use this system for?
Which specific "m.2" drive are you looking at?
What do you mean by "storage and everything" ?
What OS is this?

250GB isn't much for the OS and games.
