Hi,

I was inquiring about if an NVMe 4.0 Gen4 PCIe M.2 would work to its full potential on an ASUS ROG Crosshair hero X370 mobo.

From what I understand the X570 will support PCIe 4.0 so how does this affect users like me?

I'm willing to purchase one for an upgrade even it won't utilize the 4.0 I'm also curious on how this effect PCIe lanes when it says 4.0 x4 meaning it will take up 4 PCIe lanes?

if it run, it will be run at gen3 x4. about half the performance

Ah okay, also how does this have to do with PCIe lanes? x4 means it takes up 4 lanes right? does that render 4 out of the 32 lanes on my mobo in use ?

yes x4 mean 4 lanes. amd ryzen have x4 for the m.2 on the cpu

In theory. In practice, there is typically little difference between running the SSD at PCIe 4.0 vs 3.0. Even in synthetic benchmarks, only the high queue depth sequential scores seem to be impacted much, which are probably the least relevant for typical consumer use.
