Just bought a western digital m.2 sata ssd 240gb to fit on my ASUS maximus gene vii motherboard. I was advised that this would work when going into the shop but after fitting onto my motherboard and trying to load it I could not find it on windows or my BIOS. After a lot of googling and searching I tried a few things such as changing the auto setting to m.2 in bios and trying to locate it in device management to format but I cannot find it. Is this device compatible with my motherboard? I’m not to familiar with PCIE and SATA and am thinking that this may be the issue. Below is my motherboard and ssd. I also have a HDD and Samsung 840 120gb ssd.

Solution
Board's specs: 1 x M.2 Socket 3, , with M Key, type 2260/2280 storage devices support (PCIE mode).
The board does not support a SATA m.2.
