The 97K states that the M.2 socket uses both SATA or Pcie M.2 units.
But in SATA, the M2. socket only uses two lanes instead of the usual 4 lanes.
Does that mean that the performance will only be approximately 1/2 of the SSDs capability?
And, what if I use a PCI adaptor card that the M.2 drive plugs into, Will the drive work any faster?
The 97K has two free PCI slots and a PCIEX16 that could be used.
Thanks !

Apparently no one has used an M.2 drive with the Asus Z97K motherboard. So I ordered both the M.2 and a PCIe adapter card.
I will test both and post the results.
Stay tuned.

hi have been running with Samsung 512 evo 850 m.2 card take 3 seconds to boot no problems at the moment

Mick9753:
Are you running the M.2 from the M.2 socket? or with an adaptor and from a PCIe slot?
Any hints on getting the M.2 to be recognized by the Bios, etc?
Thanks

m.2 is in m,2 socket,in bios use boot menu, don`t connect any other drives and load windows

mick9753:
You said "don`t connect any other drives" ?
Did you disconnect your internal "C" drive and then boot from the Windows Install DVD?

Not sure what you are asking, but here goes:
I sm running an Asus Z97K motherboard. Yes it does have both USB 2 and 3. Along with a M.2 socket.
The SSD is a Samsung Evo 255GB and is indeed internally mounted, using one of the 6 available SATA plugs. Works great.
BTW: Fedex has delivered my M.2 (255 GB) drive to someone else's house! And will not start looking for it until next Monday
Bummer !!

Mick: did you use a bootable USB drive to get the M.2 ssd setup? If not, what procedure was used?
It is driving me crazy! If you did use a bootable USB device, still have it ? Want to sell it?
Thanks
Tom

no . disconnect all drives and install from dvd and select m.2 as boot drive in bios . connect all other drives after installing .all straight forward regards mick

I found that if I disconnect the "C" drive, the system will not boot on anything.
Finally found an iso of Win 7 Pro and used Rufus to make a bootable flash drive with Win 7 Pro on it .
Then used the Win7 disk management software to initialize the M.2 whisk is mounted on the PCIe buss via a Lycom DT-120 M.2 PCIe to PCIe 3.0 x4 Adapter .
I can now use the M.2 but cannot get the bios adjusted to allow me to boot from it!
The Samsung SSD that installed earlier give this readings: (Crystal DiskMark)
Sequential Read (Q= 32,T= 1) : 551.581 MB/s
Sequential Write (Q= 32,T= 1) : 531.074 MB/s
The M.2 drive, running off the PCIe bus gives the following:
Sequential Read (Q= 32,T= 1) : 2244.651 MB/s
Sequential Write (Q= 32,T= 1) : 1237.474 MB/s
Now if I can only find the correct bios setup that will allow me to boot from the M.2 !!!
Mickey; Since you have the same motherboard as I , would you mind sending me as much of your bios settings as you can?
Many thanks.
