Hello everyone , newb question here , got the Asus prime h310m rd2 from a friend cause my old board won't boot up anymore , just found out that this board has M2 slot , question is if I get a M2 or nvme drive whichever is compatible as os drive will I still be able to use 4 drives for the other 4 sata ports?

If it is a SATA M.2 drive, then the SATA_2 port cannot be used. If it is a PCIe NVME M.2 drive then all the SATA headers will be available.

For clarity, "M.2" is only the form factor, ie, small card that inserts into M.2 slot. There are both SATA and PCIe M.2 drives and while they look the same they are operationally very different in terms of controller and throughput.

From the spec sheet:

*1 When a device in SATA mode is installed on the M.2 socket, SATA_2 port cannot be used.
Due to the Chipset limitation, when an M.2 device is installed in PCIe mode, the socket is set
to PCIe 2.0.
