So we had a GIANT storm last night, things were shaking and the boom woke me up at 2AM...

Today I wake up and find that there is no LAN or ethernet. My internet modem seemingly works, as there is wifi working perfectly normal. But I am not sure how to test whether there is a problem with the modem, or a problem with the mobo. Tried changing out the cable but still the same results.

Could the mobo or modem port have been ruined? How do I go about thesting which side the problem is on? What could be the cheapest solution?

Your wifi has nothing to do with the wired LAN port on the motherboard. If your wifi works and the wired connection doesn't most likely the onboard LAN is dead. If the rest of the motherboard works fine and is stable while using the wifi connection the cheapest fix is to get a PCI-E LAN card for the wired connection.

I hooked up the ethernet from the modem to a few other laptops and still no-go. Could this be an indication of a faulty modem port?
