Hopefully the title is not too vague. Here is context.

Recently, I accidently broke off the socket that connects the power button to the logic board of a late 2009 Mac Mini 3,1. A screwdriver can short the contacts on the board, allowing startup but this is a temporary fix and fear of irreversble damage if I continue.

I so far have two options. Either have the wires soldered onto the contacts, or a get a new board (despite the current functioning perfectly)

Late 09 logic boards don't seem easy to come by, but I can obtain an early 2009 logic board. Doing the EFI update will allow it to expand RAM, but my question is:

Can a 2.53Ghz Core 2 duo P8700 work with an Early 2009 logic board (after firmware update) or is it just incompatible?

If the board as well as everything on the Mini is good, you're best off just soldering the wire on.
