Question Machine Check Exception BSOD Windows 10

Hi there,

I've been getting this annoying MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION BSOD consistently after booting it will happen after about 5-10 minutes without fail. Looking online I've tried a few fixes but nothing is working and looking for some help, any given would be greatly appreciated.

I think it may be a GPU issue although I can't find anything online about this particular stop code being relevent to GPU issues however it does just say Hardware Issues so I guess it falls under that.

I have been using Afterburner to OC my GPU temporarily +90 mhz core clock and +300 mhz memory and then upping fan speeds to about 60. (I did a benchmark a while ago and the max I could get out the card whilst it remaining stable was around 120mhz core and upwards of 500mhz memory. (GTX 1660ti)

I have obviously restored the card to factory.

Heres some other things I have tried:

  • Resetting BIOS settings
  • Reinserting CMOS battery
  • Reseating RAM (and switching the slots)
  • Cleaning / Inspecting GPU (I do not see any visible marking or indication of damage, temps and utilization are normal.
  • Inspecting CPU and Heatsink
  • Clearing Dust
  • I saw updating BIOS can solve this issue but my BIOS is already up to date (asus prime h310m-a r2.0) Version 2209
  • Reinstalling Windows (Did not reset Hard Drive Only C Drive)
  • Changing power outlet cable
  • Changing wall socket
I'm not sure if its worth noting but I do not get any bluescreens in Safe Mode at all, my Motherboard does not support on-board graphics so it is utilizing the GPU whilst in Safe Mode.

I'm at a loss at this point and any help would be appreciated, heres my setup information:

GPU: GTX 1660ti
CPU: i5 9400F 2.9ghz
Motherboard: asus prime h310m-a r2.0
RAM: OLOy 2 x 16GB U-DIMM 3000Mhz CL16

If you need any more info let me know.

Thanks in advance.

note bios info looks bogus, cpu has slight overclock

download microsoft autoruns64 from here:Autoruns for Windows - Sysinternals | Microsoft Learn
find this driver and delete it:
C:\Program Files (x86)\MSI Afterburner\RTCore64.sys Thu Jun 18 04:55:42 2020
(most likely cause of bugcheck, bad instruction pointer)
remove driver and retest.

you will also need to update your realtek audio driver to a version with a date from 2020 or newer. your version is from 2017 and has a bug where it will corrupt your graphics card audio driver.
or mess up this audio driver:THXVAD.sys Tue Sep 17 22:15:49 2019

network driver is old 2018, you should update it also. Just fyi

Thanks again, I deleted rtcore64.sys per your instructions and also updated my Realtek Drivers to 2019/06/11 (this was the latest I could find that was compatible with my system)

It seems the BSOD is still occuring however it does now take longer after booting for it to occur, going from 2-5 minutes to around 20 minutes. Not sure if thats helpful in anyway but yeah.

try and reset the bios to defaults. it was strange that I could not read the full bios info. Maybe due to a panic kernel dump.
it the motherboard running the most current bios ? cpu not overheated? psu power inputs the correct range in bios?

Yes, it is running the most up to date BIOS.

I may have fixed the issue, I did about 10 different things in one session so not sure exactly what worked or if it will stick but;

Removed GPU, RAM and Heatsink, cleaned heatsink thoroughly reaseated RAM correctly, removed CMOS battery for 10+ minutes and then replaced, reinserted all components, disabled Turbo Mode for CPU in bios, used Optional Windows Updates to update outdated drivers so far I have 40 mins without a BSOD which is by far the longest yet.

Just hoping I never see that blasted screen again. I'll keep you updated thanks for your help.
