Mad burning!

AMD XP Athlon 2800+ on a motherboard ASUS A7V600-X with 512 MB di RAM
400DDR.
I have a PIONEER DVD-R 107D. When I try to burn a DVD, after about 10
minutes the PC reset automatically and so I lost my DVD. What can be the
problem? Thanks.

What hard disk config do you have?
Have you run something like memtest
Have you run something like 3dmark for an hour or more
What else is in there
What size power supply do you have
Are there nasty flashes is the sky followed by big ''boom' noises
??

So many questions, so little information.
Try giving us a bit more info. Is yer burner set as secondary
master.Describe yer ram. What brand.How many sticks, what slots have you got
it/ them in. What operating system. What programme/s are you trying to burn
with. Does your computer only do this while burning DVDs or does it do it at
other times too ? Do you have a virus. Does your CPU get too hot.
Do you try to do other things while burning. What have you got running in
the background. Is your power supply strong enough.
I am sure you get the picture.
A fairly ordinary computer such as a Duron 1000 with 512 Mb PC 133 ram, a
Sony burner and using Nero 6 Ultra or Elby CloneDVD with AnyDVD will burn
DVDs and I have just described my mate`s computer. I use an A7V600 and a
Sony burner and this works for me. It is possible that your problem could be
any of the above but it could also be your Pioneer burner. Read the item
below..

a.. Compatibility and writing quality with some DVDR/RW media could be
improved (especially with known brands like Ricoh DVD+R and Verbatim
DVD+RW).
a.. No 4x DVDR discs are supported at 8x write speed.
a.. Few 8x DVDR discs are supported at 8x write speed.
a.. Serious problems writing 24x Ultra Speed CD-RW discs.
a.. Slow CD-R writing speed of only 24x.
a.. Does not support Mt. Rainier.
a.. Many problems with reading less than perfect discs.
a.. Higher seek times than the competition
a.. Problems with recognizing/reading most DVD-RAM discs.
a.. Read speed of DVD-Video discs is locked to 5x CAV.
a.. Uses long time on calibrating before starting to write DVDR discs, this
makes it the slowest drive at 4x DVDR speed and slower than expected at 8x
DVDR writing speed
a.. Does not support reading all types of protected audio discs.
a.. Does not support "Correct EFM encoding of regular bit patterns" making
it unable to backup newer Safedisc protected discs.
a.. Slightly noisier than some other 8x DVD-Writers.

It's obvious to me... OVERHEATING system.

Do as I say... Open the casing for a test, and bring a simple fan to make double sure.
The DVD burner runs a lot of heat, on top of your system; Which I suspect to be
running a bit too hot.. The CPU, that is.

It could not be PSU not strong enough, for it can work 10 mins.
10 mins is a strong indication that heat is building-up inside the machine and
eventually all goes AFU and reset.

(For the test, I recommend using a DVD-RW.. That way you'll recover the media after
a crash.)

Oh, it could still crash/reset/lockup after a tiny winy bit more time.
That would only mean you are still too hot.. But if the case is open and the room
temperature is not worse than the day you crashed after 10mins... Then if it
crashes, it MUST take longer (indicates temperature is indeed the factor).

Permanent fix sugg: (combinations possible)
: Upgrade AMD CPU heat sink.
: Add internal fan to enhance air flow.
: Get a new computer casing with real AMD solution.
: Get an expert to 'resettle' the heat sink on the CPU, ***could be gathering DUST too !!!***
: If the CPU HS is gathering dust; Clean only with a brush and air; Carefull not to dismount or hit.
: Make special airflow circuit for the DVD burner; Put it on top; Isolate it, and give it its own little fan.
