Hi guys,
I'm looking for some help on what to buy to upgrade my computer. I must say its been a very long time since I've looked at computer hardware and man do things change fast!
Here are the specs for my current computer:
Motherboard: Msi z77 mpower
Cpu: core i5 3570k @ 4.5 ghz (NZXT kraken x60)
Gpu: Gigabyte gtx 970 windforce 3x (1610 mhz oc 4gb gddr5)-gtx 1080 fe soon
ram: 8 gb corsair Vengeance pro 1600 mhz
HDD: 1 tb WD Caviar Blue
SSD 1: 120gb Samsung 840 series drive
SSD 2: 250 gb Samsung 840 evo series drive
PSU: Corsair Hx series 850 watt with sleeved red cables
Case: Corsair Carbide 400c
I'm looking to upgrade the CPU, motherboard, ram, and get a new hard drive. I would like to keep the same Kraken x60 cooler and case, so I'm not entirely sure if it will be compatible with the new motherboards/cpus.
My computing needs in the near future will revolve around lots of scientific computing. I expect that within about a year I will be doing lots of Monte Carlo simulations in statistical physics. I will probably be doing other simulations related to Quantum field theory, as well as numerical differential equations. Currently, I'm rendering lots of videos and running more basic computer programs for data analysis (Matlab and Python), but I expect my computing load will increase substantially within the next month or so.
budget: 1000$ Canadian
Thanks in advance!
