Hi,
I have a MAME-specific question so forgive me for posting this in
discussion groups that aren't exactly for MAME, I figured I would post
to related groups.
I noticed this fantastic MAME machine Adam mentioned that he put
together (also a very good chuckle, thanks Adam)

Anyway my question is, I notice the Space Invaders rom actually has the
planet background displayed. I was not aware any of the roms could
display their background artwork. Is this a special rom or a special
version of MAME I have not heard of before?
I'd sure love to be able to get games like Warrior and Discs of Tron
running with their background picture. I wonder if there's a version
that can display the forground art as in Night Driver?

If you have artwork in your "bexel" folder, MAME will display it, as
you see with Space Invaders. There are many games that have this set up
in MAME

Though it looks nice with the artwork I beleive it also makes the play
area smaller with the artwork installed.

It depends on the artwork itself. There's also a MAME.INI option to clip
the artwork to the size of the game screen itself, so that only
immediate background or overlays show, without making the playing area
smaller. -JW
