All this story proves is that at one university there were some dirty tricks going on. It does not prove or disprove global warning, climate change, or whatever. You seem to have swallowed the US far rights bait hook, line and sinker.

I think thats minimizing it quite a bit. Thats like saying Sidney isnt really that important to OZ.
This is their main port, from what Ive read, could be wrong....

Look, there are many strange and politicized things going on within the IPCC itself. So a wee bit of corruption at one UK university doesn't get me too upset. Personally, I prefer the CSIRO's data sets for our region, and they are 'interesting' to say the least. It won't take too much more CO2 in the ocean to raise the Ph level above the threshold where reefs start dying. Worse than that, to me, is that also means that prawns and lobsters will take a big hit as well, as will the krill down in Antarctica. (Well, maybe that has a good side as well, as there will no longer be a reason for the Japanese to continue their 'scientific research' of whales...)

I'm also waiting for the CSIRO's continuing ice core studies, about which they are being rather quiet at the moment.

As to Sydney's importance, we are running out of water, our transportation is going downhill, there is no land being made available for new housing and the current immigration plans would have Sydney's population almost double by 2050. Average house prices on the north shore are way over .5M and rising, nearer to .75M near my area. More and more businesses are re-locating to Bris and Melbourne, so Sydney's 'importance' is lessening, and our issues are growing...

To sum up the situation, which I think is irrefutable.

Taking action can't really do any harm in the long run, taking no action may potentially do irreversible harm.

Myself, I think if you take a step back and remove the human factors in reasoning that there is no issue(basically the effort it would take on our part) then no one can really deny that there is not a problem.

Inaction is an action and could be a costly one.

Oh right... "the energy companies foot the bill themselves" Yeah... that totally won't raise our electric bills! WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT?!? TAX THEM and I'll continue to enjoy my cheap electricity! Ugh.

Energy Australia bills us for 1600 Kwh @ .21, everything above that for a month @ .32 I think... If Rees 'privatizes' NSW's grid, the ETS 'tax' will not even noticeable in the bloodbath of red ink that follows. Hell, EA cannot even manage to install a decent SCADA properly now, what incentive will they have to do so if they have to answer to shareholders?

And the Libs are any better??? Federally, how many leaders have they had since JH lost the plot? (and his seat...) Bye bye Malcolm, (you arrogant ass) hello Joe... Good theatre, but not good politics.

Oh I think the Libs are idiots as well, at least they are now. They have some conflicts of interest though. On one hand they need to stop the ETS being done and legislated by Copenhagen like a good bunch of right wingers, but at the same time they're imploding the whole party by in-fighting. Liberal are going to have a landslide loss at the next election if they don't get their act together, but if they can then it should be interesting. The ETS isn't overly popular and I think the immigration story has caused some bruises on Kevo, but it all depends if these issues are remembered next year.

Personally I'm going to go with a vote of no confidence in either party for federal, and I'm not sure about state (I certainly won't be voting Labor). Perhaps we should have a coup? 😀

Maybe we should recruit Pauline down to NSW....

Sounds like we have the beginnings of a good plan...

(sorry for those scratching their heads, but I think this thread went off of the rails LONG ago...)

im slightly lost amongst the differing opinions here...

i understand the contention surrounding global warming. i in fact belive that the global temperature rises are not atributed to man-made causes.
but are some of you honestly saying, 'oh well nevermind, lets keep dumping carbon into the atmosphere?'

seriously, we should still be doing everything we can to reverse the huge amount of waste products being pumped into the air. weather global warming is a hoax, a mistake, or a conspiracy, we still need to stop destroying our planet.

Well, rumour has it that the seat of Wentworthville will be vacant soon, and there will be a by election... Pauline could parachute in there, and start bringing back One Nation again at the federal level. All she would need to start back up is a win and some prefs from, say the nats and the greens, Voila! One nation has risen from the ashes. Oh yeah, don't forget the Gun Party... I am sure they'd back her as well.

Oh I see. Don't forget the Pirate Party, they might back her as well. 😉 I'm not sure if she'd be any worse than the current candidates to be honest, they're all bad 🙁

Btw, I think you missed the joke in my post as well. I take it you don't remember her 1996 interview where she was asked if she was xenophobic. 😀

You are correct, I did not get the joke. In defense, Pauline wasn't on my radar back in 1996 though, so I'll have to plead ignorance.

I didn't care about politics back then either (for obvious age reasons). I think it's been repeated a few times in recent history, especially when the nude photo thing came up. It's one of her more "famous" quotes. Here's the interview if you care to listen. She says it somewhere around the middle.

Patiently waiting for the link....
