MATX vs. ATX

Are micro boards less effective in any way?/Will I be missing out on features that are exclusive to standard boards?

Not much. I even found a micro atx evga 1155 board with sli. I prefer micro atx as they fit more cases, but if you have a full size case and always use a separate video card, then atx is a better value.
