i want to overclock my i3 from 2.93ghz to whatever the max is[aiming at 3.6ghz] with a Cooler Master Hyper 212+ cpu cooler..

i have already oc'd it to 3.015ghz (because i havent recieved my new cooler and im still using the stock one) and the temp at max load (100%) is 65 degrees celcius..

in the mean time (with stock cooler) what would be the max clock? 3.2ghz???

thanks

Well all chips are different its hard to say what it will max out at it should be able to hit 3.6Ghz with no trouble just a guess but 4Ghz shouldn't be too hard either. But like I said all chips are different and some just don't overclock well. You will just have to find out on your own.

I just overclocked my i3 to 4.5 ghz. You have a lot of room to go. My vcore is set at 1.35v and bus speed is 205 with multiplier at 22. I do have mine liquid cooled but I've seen others get it with a stock heat sink to those numbers as well

I think you can get more than 2 in moonman math.

Just do it, get educated, every rig and chip is different.

choker41 could be running 5C or less temps, running massive $40 massive delta fans on a $130 watercooled radiator. Or maybe playing with phase cooling.

Just learn and do it.

Another Toms classic.

i cant get passed 3.52ghz.. (160 x 22) if i go higher it just blue screens after windows loads up. i am pretty sure it has got something to do with th voltage(i am unable to change this because i dont know how.).

this is wierd because it is 100% stable at 100% load and max temp is 44 degrees and in idle it is like 30 degrees..

i want to know if it is possible to change the voltage of the vcore with this motherboard, intel DH55HC board....

thanks a lot for all help

I'm kind of curious what your temperatures are with the Hyper 212 with your OC. I have mine at 3.69GHz on the stock Intel cooler and Prime95 gets the temperature up 100C pretty quick. I ordered a Hyper 212P earlier today but won't get it till Monday. Prior to this build a month ago I had a Hyper TX on a 105W B3 Q6600@3.0GHz/P45 Platinum and the TX wasn't the greatest but it was OK so figured the 212P would be much better for this dual core.

i3 530, MSI H55-GD65, Crucial 2x2GB 1333
MSI N260GTX OCSP, Corsair TX650W

i'm running my i3 at 4.0ghz and 1.31 vcore and Hyper 212 plus and max temp is never over 65.. usually between 55 and 60. and idle temps are around 35 celcius

Thanks for the info. I'll let you know how mine does when I get it in and what I can get my OC up to.

just for interest.. What temp should i go up to. I want to go to 4.2ghz and 1.35 vcore but i'm not too sure about the temperature issues and stability

Make sure your ram isn't limiting you, it may need more voltage or the ratio changed.

I3 has been known to hit 4ghz on stock cooler.

Oh and max temp specified by intel is 72.6c.

I don't have any problem with my RAM, these Crucials will do nearly 1500 at stock volts and beyond 1600 with 1.65V. I'm sure I could get 4.0 on the stock cooler but I run f@h 24/7 and don't want to over do it yet. At current OC Prime95 gets it up to 100C (RealTemp) pretty quick with the stock cooler. Haven't got the 212+ yet, it's still on the truck somewhere between Reno and my front door.

cromedome, what program do you use to check your temperature? I use either Core Temp or RealTemp

TJMax is 105C & as Raidur stated TCase 72.6C

Prime95 is usually a good test to base your temps off of. You want to have equal or less than 72c during Prime95 to have a safe OC.

100c is very dangerous, the TJMax limit is met for a cut-off limit, you never even want to break the TCase of 72c TBH.

Do you have your CPU vcore(voltage) set to auto?

What is your Core Voltage in CPU-Z?

cromedome, I don't think you should have any temperature problem with the 212+ judging by how mine is doing. I suspect you may not have proper airflow through your case or maybe thermal paste was not quite right, compared to mine your temps seem kind of high. What case do you have and what size and how may fans are in it? Mine is CM Elite 330 with a 120mm front intake and 120mm rear exhaust.

4014MHz, CPU voltage is on auto & shows at 1.272V in CPU-Z. Got the CM 212+ in and max temp with it f@h & Orthos at same time was 51C. With just f@h it's goes no higher than 37C on 1 core an 42C on the other. This cooler keeps the max temp so far about 30C lower than the stock cooler did in this rig. Even the RAM is now at 1460 1.5V. Seems like the i3 530 w/212+ cooler, H55-GD65, Crucial 1333 1.5V RAM is a perfect combination.

I use Core Temp and H/W monitor for temps and Everest Ultimate for stressing. I would use Prime 95 but whenever I run it my PC crashes within 3 seconds (no jokes). My voltage is not on auto and in CPU-Z it says 1.296 on idle and 1.31 on full load. I have 120mm intake and also 120mm exhaust fan and the PSU has a 135mm fan at the bottom. I think my temps are pretty high (33 idle, 59 load) because my GPU (XFX HD 4890) runs around 52 in 2d idle mode.

Best i have now is CPU 4126MHz & memory at 1500 (750). Temperatures are still same as before. I like the 212+ for this CPU. Just for jollies I'm going to try push-pull fans on it. I really don't expect much change in temps though.
I don't think your graphics card has anything to do with it. I have my N260GTX OC in the top 16x slot and it runs at 70-75C f@h 24/7 and my CPU has not gone over 52C since iI put this cooler on. I would suggest you redo the TIM on the cooler and see if it improves any. I had a tough time getting that supplied CM goop to spread evenly.

yea.. i also think i should re-apply the paste and h/s.... i'm also using push/pull config with mine. Two Vantec stealth 12cm fans that run 1370 rpm 24/7.

I just thought my graphics card was making the cpu warmer because the heat will rise off the card and then onto cpu cooler.

what voltage is your vcore set to. i have mine at 1.300v @ 4.0ghz, 182mhz x 22 and memory at 1456 [728]

My CPU voltage is still on auto and a quick check 1 minute ago still shows the 1.272V it showed before.
I tested push-pull fans on the 212+ last night with Orthos small fft CPU stress and max temp was 54C with single fan push and added 2nd pull fan no change so removed the pull fan after the test as it was not needed.

I'm sure I'm at the limit for auto settings on voltages and I think with the IMC being in the graphics chip and not the CPU chip is where my current wall lies in my OC. It was easy up to now but now it's time to do some research and find out how all of that stuff interacts between each other and make needed adjustments. I think I'll leave mine as is for a few days, it seems as all I've doing is fooling with this thing for the past week and moderating at MSI forums and being up till anywhere from 2:00 AM till the sun comes up and its dragging me down ha ha.
