Hello. I have a Dell Inspiron 7490 with the i7-10510U processor with iGPU. According to the spec sheet, the max resolution via DisplayPort is 4096 x 2304 @ 60Hz. I am in the market for a new monitor for gaming and I'm leaning towards a 1440p one which I want to run at 144Hz.

So my question is, if the iGPU can do 4k @ 60Hz, is it safe to assume that it can do 1440p @ 144Hz? Or does this depend on other factors?

According to Dell, the Inspiron 7490 had an HDMI port. Are you thinking to use the Thunderbolt port plus an adapter?

From Intel's spec sheet that you linked: "System or device display resolution is dependent on multiple system design factors; actual resolution may be lower on your system."

Here you're going from Intel iGPU -> Dell motherboard -> Thunderbolt/DisplayPort adapter. Thing is, ports etc don't always support the highest specs that the standard allows for.

So to answer your question, it's not safe to assume that your laptop can do external144 Hz @ 1440p. Maybe it can, maybe there's some issue.

Yeah I was thinking of using Thunderbolt -> DisplayPort adapter. But after doing more reading on all this stuff, there's definitely no way I can assume this subpar integrated graphics card can do 144Hz @ 1440p.

I've changed course and now I'm looking to get a new budget gaming laptop which I'll use for external 144Hz @ 1080p gaming.
