maxtor 86480D6 driver

I have a Maxtor HDD given to me by a friend, I am connecting externally using a USB2 connection but can't find a driver and the HDD appears as an Unknown Device under Other Devices in Device Manager.

I've checked the Seagate site and can't find any drivers for the HDD, can anyone help?

Are you sure the drive is OK? The computer ought to see it and have it ready all by itself. Is it in an external case?

The drive is spinning ok, its in an external case which I have used previously but computer doesnt recognise it for some reason.....

The drive spinning doesn't mean anything. Does it work when installed in a computer without the extnl. enclosure?

I haven't tried in a computer directly, I will dismantle one over the next few days and see what happens.....
