Hi all.

I need a firmware binary and flash utility for a Maxtor Fireball 3 40GB ATA hard drive, model no. 2F040LO.

Maxtor have been no help and I've spent the last hour and a half scouring the web to no avail.

If anyoneone has a link to the files I need it would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Just curious. Why do you need to upload the firmware?

I have a drive which was a replacement for a defective 20GB hard drive from HP.

The new drive is a 40GB model but has stickers covering it's capacity and it's been restricted to 20GB.

My guess is that they didn't have any more 20GB drives and they didn't want to give out a free upgrade. I've also heard of several occasions where drives have been replaced like this.

I'm presuming the drive has just been limited using a firmware hack. I've tried some diagnostic tools but they all report 20GB.

Therefore I want to try a firmware flash to find if I can unlock the drives full capacity.

Perhaps its really a 20GB drive, and they just ran out of 20GB stickers

Only one way to find out......

Besides, I already have another identical drive running @ 40GB. I'd like to get the new drive up to scratch and Raid them in my fileserver.
