There are some things people think they will never live to see happen
because they are so difficult: astronauts walking on the moon, planets
being discovered in other solar systems, Paris Hilton having more than
15 minutes of fame. Today I'd like to announce something harder to
believe than all three put together: Cassandra "No Luck" Goth has
finally been married--to Darren "No Bucks" Dreamer.
Darren came over last night and was unusally receptive to Cassandra'a
flirts. Usually he blows her off, but he was smooching and so forth.
He sat down on the bench outside the Goth home (What bench outside the
Goth home? The one I put there so they'd smooch.) and I had her come
over and *autonomously* they started cuddling and kissing. Then REALLY
KISSING. Mortimer walked by on his way to the backyard and said "Hey,
way to go!" or something like that. (Hey, I just realized the Goth
house has no back door.)
So I had her ask him to stay the night. He readily agreed. So I had
her propose. He said yes. Figuring I was on a roll, and that there was
no time like the present, I bought an arch, a bunch of outdoor tables
and chairs, a buffet table, a bar, a cake and champagne, rented a bar
tender, and invited eight guests to the wedding.
Amazingly, this time Darren didn't bail. He didn't run away when she
pulled out the ring. Maybe this was because Mortimer had
surreptitiously cemented his feet to the ground, and there was also a
metal shackle locking Darren's leg to the arch, but this was all behind
a small rosebush, so the wedding guests were none the wiser. They just
saw a slightly nervous man jerking his left leg occasionally as
Cassandra was placing the ring on his clenched finger.
There was cake, a toast to the bride and groom, and dancing. For the
first time, I did not see a Sim couple smoosh cake into each other's
mouths after they cut it. They just ate. I didn't realize Maxis gave
us two variations of this action.
Then the limo came and off they went. As Cassandra was getting into the
car a voice said, "Cassandra Goth, you've *finally* managed to get
married. What are you going to do now?" She replied, "I'm going to
MyshunoWorld!"
The guests went home happy, except for two, who stayed all night until
early next morning! (Never saw that before either. Is it a bug or a
feature.) All I can say is Hawk Melrose Place sure looked hung over.
After the bride and groom returned I encountered a really weird bug. It
was time, I decided, for them and their kids to move out of Morty's
place and get digs of their own. So I had Cassandra look for another
place on the computer. I didn't realize it at the time, but it was also
close to time for her to go to work and the kids to go to school. (I
don't know whether that fact has anything to do with this bug, but for
the record, that's the way it was.)
Now, I got the screen asking me who wants to move out with Cassandra and
I chose the appropriate people. But after I made the selection nothing
happened. Bella just sat there, and no one came over to say goodbye to
them. At the same time, Cassandra's ride showed, up, as did the school
bus. So did the taxi for moving. Some of the Sims moving out went to
the school bus and some went to the taxi. There seemed to be some
familial confusion about what was going on.
Finally Cassandra got into the taxi (even though her work limo was also
waiting) and the vehicle took off. The icons of those who moved
disappeared from the screen so I thought they had moved. I went to save
and exit that house and go install the new Goths in a new house, but I
couldn't--the save and neighborhood and quit options were all grayed
out. And I was stuck at the Goth Sr. house. I decided I'd try sending
someone still there to a community lot--maybe saving the game as the
taxi left would get things right again. So I had Dina call a cab. Now
here's where it gets REALLY weird: the cab came, Dina went to get into
it, and she got to the porch, sat down on the porch steps, and closed
the "door." The game was playing the animation like she's getting into
the taxi, but she's on the porch! *Then* her animation rapidly floated
from the porch into the taxi and the cab drove away.
But we didn't leave to follow her. Instead we stayed the Goth house,
all saves and exits still disabled, and a few seconds later the cab
returned and Dina gets out.
At this point I decided I had to control/alt/delete to get out. I did,
reloaded the Goth house, and found nothing had saved: Cassandra and
hubby still lived there. So this time I had her look for a new place
long before it was carpool time. The others tearfully said goodbye,
they left the correct way, and the move was completed properly.
So Cassie is gone from Mortimer's house. And Mortimer is getting up
there in years. Soon he will croak (never yet had a Sim die from
natural causes, believe it or nor) and Dina will inherit his fortune and
go in search of the next Mr. Rich, who will probably be either Joe
Millionaire, Ricky Ricko or Daniel Pleasant, who got all of Mary Sue's
considerabe worth and moved into a nice manor, subsequently working his
way up to Congressman. Sounds like a good catch, Dina. You go, girl!
