Hello,
I have replaced a broken mb by a new (second hand) one.
Broken: MSI K7T Turbo
New: MSI K7T Pro2 Ver.1
CPU: AMD Athlon 1200Mhz.
The new mb says at startup that the CPU is running on 900Mhz. That's strange
because the manual of the MSI K7T Pro2 Ver.1 says that it's suitable for
Athlon running from 600-1200Mhz. I have already flashed the newest firmware
(W6330VMS.360) for this mb, but to no avail.
What is the problem here?
Geetings,
Hans

Are you using the right FSB speed and multiplier?
Is the AMD Athlon 1200MHz a version you have to run at 12*100MHz iso
9*133MHz?

The broken mb (MSI K7T Turbo) has a "CPU Front Side Bus Frequency Selector"
on the mb itself. This was set on 133MHz. The new mb (MSI K7T Pro2 Ver.1)
lacks this selector. It runs on 100MHz.
The mb should automatically detect the right CPU speed. By changing the
settings in the BIOS setup manually, you are overclocking ? or not?

I used to have a B version of the AMD Athlon 1.2GHz, that only runs at
100MHz, on an Asus A7V133 1.04 motherboard that died after 1.5 years.
The motherboard allowed you to run the Athlon at 100Mhz while the memory
ran at the regular 133Mhz (if you had 133MHz memory).

I don't know what your motherboard is supposed to do automaticly.
But manual settings can allow you to get things working or maybe even
underclock to get a lower temperature.

Apart from this, when you have the 133MHz version of the 1.2GHz Athlon
you may be able to select FSB=133MHz in Bios SetUp if you have RAM that
can run at that speed too.
Otherwise you have to leave FSB at 100MHz and select multiplier 12* in
Bios SetUp.
