mb upgrade

I have a 3 yr old gateway 500 essentials,ati 9000 pro video card, 512mg ram. I found this web site...Power Leap.com, that sells a upgrade chip for my Tabor 3 WS440BX mb. They claim it will boost my 500mhz to 1.4ghz. Just a simple plug and play job pratically. Has anyone ever tried this processor before? Order #PL-iP3/T. I was considering building a new cpu, but my gaming isn't heavy duty. Just flight sims and slot machine games. any info would be greatly apprieciated. Thanking you in advance, Art

I'll sell you a Powerleap adapter for $50. You can get a Celeron 1.1GHz Tualatin from Newegg.com, with 3-year warranty from Intel, for $44. That's $94 for 1100MHz.

your offer is interesting. Can I put a 1400 in that adapter? Also, my cpu locks up after playing Real Deals Slots Vol 2 for more than an hour. A friend? suggested that I upgrade my mb. My Flight Sim 2002 works, but barely, does not lock up my cpu tho I do have low frame rates.

Yeah, it will, but the Tualatin Celeron is $100 something I think, and the Tualatin Pentium 3 at 1.4Ghz is still $200 some, a lot more expensive than a 1.1 or 1.2 Ghz Celeron

Instead of Rdram, why not just merge 4 Sdram channels...

Those prices amaze me when a retail Athlon XP 1700+ costs $69.00. Intel's budget CPU's are not budget priced.
MSI 745 Ultra costs $65.00, that would be $134 for a much faster CPU and also a good motherboard. The problem is that you would also need new RAM, so you would still spend less with the Powerleap and the Celeron. Before you get the Powerleap with the P3 1.4GHz, consider the cost to upgrade to an AXP.

Yeah, but keep in mind, Intel wants to phase out all of the Pentium 3 series, save for the Mobile Pentium 3's and the ULV Pentium 3's. The Athlon was always designed with a strict budget in mind, so you get a lot for your money in the end. It kinda defeats his purpose to get a whole new motherboard and ram, as well as a processor, even if he gets more performance. For just about $30-60, he can get about a 1.1Ghz or 1.2Ghz Celeron Tualatin and get a decent performance boost

All 1.2's, 1.3's, and 1.4's are Tualatin. I got the 1.1GHz tualatin celeron for $44, it's overclocked to 1466MHz right now.

The adapter will support the 1400 easily. But the 1400 is about twice the price of the 1200 I think, which makes it a poor value.
