ME installation failure

Recently a friend of mine trying to install ME, everything seems quite normal at first, the setup copying the files then reboot, after the Ram checking the computer was rebooting again and again, the Goddamn windows ME startup logo didn't show up.
I've told him to disable all the working programs including the virus scanners, but the result was just the same.
I think ME has some hardware incompatibilities.
Anyone can explain the problem and how to solve it?

The first possibility would be to reinstall ME, which could maybe solve the problem.

If the sytem still won't boot, I'd pull out all all the extension cards, the CDROM and any burners/DVD-ROMs.

If it won't boot with only graphics card and harddrive installed...I give up.

i think there is something funny about win me, but the loading screen doesn't appear on my pc, which does appear to be working correctly, although now my cdrom will no longer read some types of cr-r for god knows what reason.

Don't install win Me- the only thing it runs better than 98se is netscape. (ironic as that may be) It also boots up a few seconds faster and for those seconds you get all sorts of bugs. Ditch it- install 98se or win 2000. both come with their own problems but none as bad as win me.

Just had this problem on a friends computer tonight. His computer had two sticks of 64MB PC133 ram for a total of 128. One stick was of severely less quality than the other. I set the bios to PC133 and the machine kept rebooting. If I switched to bios back to PC100 it booted fine. Or if I took out the crap ram and set the bios back to PC133 it booted fine. I was able to reproduce and verify this several times. So if you have sh*tty ram, get some good stuff or set the ram speed in the bios to PC133.

Check Version Upgrade, Retail Full, or OEM. Retail full, and oem require a clean disk. I am not shure on the upgrade. I hope this helps. Bruce©

Bubba is right. I had the same problem, installed win about 5 times before i realized the RAM was worthless and if you are overclocking turn everything down when you install win.

Something you should always check if your PC seems to be rebooting for no reason is if it does anything wierd before it reboots etc...like Beep...
If you have the Motherboard Manual handy, or if you can download it in PDF format, you may want to check it to see what the different beeps mean.
On mine when i try to overclock too high with shitty RAM, it will beep three short beeps...automatically I know its the RAM, so if you are getting anything like that make sure you dont have any BIOS tweaks.
Now as for ME, the best way i succesfully installed it (the way with best performance, least GPF's and blue screens) is by doing this:
(1) Format and FDisk your HD
(2) Boot off Disk...or even Win98SE boot disk.
(3) Run setup on CD-Rom
(4) When prompted, put in your Win98SE disk.

Now i am by no means Microsofts biggest fan but i like WinMe, now that its installed properly it runs like a charm. I get better performance overal, less crashes...faster bootup with no INI editing and overallbehind-the-scenes OS intelligence has been boosted. All in all winMe is reasonble, seeing that for gamers there is no alternative.
