I'll see the movie when it comes out and stand in line if I have to, but I'm not going to have great expectations for it. Most of the video game movies have been plagued by poor writing and poor acting. I doubt this will be any exception.

[citation][nom]valcron[/nom]GI Joe I agree with. However for 300 sure the action was great but it was the writing/emotion and overall feeling behind the movie that made it something special. Any movie could have pulled off the action in 300, but not many could have made you want to actually jump into the movie and help these guys out.[/citation]

Besides the action, I honestly thought 300 was not really that good of a movie. Seemed a little below average to me.

It would be really nice if Harmony Gold got on board and finally gave non-exclusive rights to the "unseen" mechs and that whole BS. True FASA outright stole their IP back in the day, but unless there is going to be a Robotech Movie (not cartoon), would be a good opportunity for them to make some bucks and give me back a Mechwarrior / Battletech story that I can get into and that I remember. Story is probably going to suck. JJ's talents as a director is quite promising, as a write, I don't know, have a mixed track history. I would like a story that starts at the beginning... going right to the clans would be setting up the franchise for an "Episode IV" debacle (if it is actually successful) - can't we have a storyline / sequels that simply proceed in time normally?

Not to give some of your hopes up, but with Michael Gordon writing it's going to be filled with one-liners and focused more on the characters rather than the clans/story. Only reason 300 was decent is because Zach Snyder watched Gordon closely to make sure no b.s got in the script. This movie is a tragedy waiting to happen...

Other Suggested existing storylines:
Parts of the Warrior Trilogy
The Sword and Dagger
Decision at Thunder Rift

Though i wouldn't mind someone exploring Kerensky's retaking of Terra.

I must correct Tommmmmm. I am about 95% sure I have this story correct. (Been a while since I talked to some of the people that were involved.)

The images were originally licensed as non exclusive to FASA.
The images where then INCORRECTLY licensed exclusively to Harmony Gold, because they did so without explicity revoking FASAs rights at that time.

Harmony Gold was doing much better than FASA in the 90's and was able to sue them into submission for sheer effect of $$$. The main case was actually won by FASA, but they couldn't sustain the $$$ hit to fend off the appeal, so they gave in and released their rights as long as there would be no penalty.

I find it ironic that Catalyst Labs (the successor publisher to the Battletech and Shadowrun Properties.) seems to be in a much better position that Harmony Gold these days, to the point of actually trying to work out buying the rights "back".

If they get it right... we've been waiting 15 years for this.

I saw the opening cutscene for Mechwarrior 2 (the ATI Rage edition with the incredible background music) 15 years ago, and if they could make a Mech movie with as much drama as that trailer they'd make a billion dollars easily (I'd gladly see it twice).

As long as it's not some BS like MechWarrior 4, it sounds awesome. MechWarrior 3 still remains one of my favorite games to this day. Too bad it won't work on any of my computers anymore. Maybe I'll have to dig out my old Pentium III Windows 98 box from my parents' house.

I would really like to see them do the rise of the Gray Death Legion. Those 3 books were great with a lot of material for a great film series.

I think the movies in the Mechwarrior games were really cool. If they can make a movie out of the story line I would definetly watch it. It's a legacy, just like Star Warz. Dunno about Megan though, I like when there are original actors in a movie. She is hot, but it just feels weird to have the same actor playing in each and single movie. Baternator was really strange lol.

They should start with the Grey Death Legion because it gives them the most flexibility. By starting near 3005 all of the actors could age and play the roles sequentially. Story wise it is also the best start because you would get a much better feel for the neo-feudal culture and introduce the intamacies of small unit mech and combined forces operations. That way less would need to be introduced in later movies and larger storylines like the Warriors Trilogy would make excellent choices. Then, after the Inner Sphere and houses are firmly introduced the Clan Invasion would be all the more powerful and as traumatic to watchers as to the characters.

Mechwarrior is one of my all time favorite PC games. I hope they make this movie and more importantly make a new version of the game!

I just hope this doesn't turn out like Gundam G-Savior XD XD XD. Seriously though Mech Warrior is a great franchise, and I hope the movie will be the same. I'll go see it either way just cause its mech warrior.

I will definitely watch this movie no matter how bad it sucks....just for nastalgia sake. I started playing Battletech, Citytech and Aerotech in the 80's. I still have most of the Technical Readouts even though they haven't seen light for almost 2 decades. So many story lines have come out of this game that they could definitely make a great movie or series of movies. Unfortunately I have extremely low expectations for the movie. Hollywood has a record of turning great stories into crap. ie: I loved the book Battlefield Earth back in the 80's....got excited when the movie came out.....we all know how that turned out

[citation][nom]JohnnyLucky[/nom]I saw the opening 15 minutes of the original "Transformers" yesterday. Best Buy was showing it on a new Samsumg LED TV that was heavily tweaked. I was not impressed with the film.[/citation]
Explain, "Heavily Tweaked"? Either that means YOU were impressed or you have issues with denial. It looked THAT good huh? lol
