Hi. I'm trying to connect to a Toshiba 2200 cable modem. When I
connect it to the Ethernet socket, the lights are on correctly but
ipconfig/all tells me media disconnected. When I connect it to USB and
load the USB drivers it works.

Can your cable modem and your ethernet port autonegotiate half/full duplex
and cable polarity? If not, then you may need to use an ethernet swap cable
or connect both devices to a hub/switch that can perform the autonegotiation.
