So I use CnX Media Player to play FLV and HEVC files because the Movies and TV App built into windows. I have task manager open on my second monitor and whenever I use that, my GPU Load goes to 100% from the media player sometimes, if not then 50%-80%. The video itself drops the frame rate and quality. But videos shouldn’t have to use the gpu, right? The video file is saved onto the computer and you don’t have to render it. When I upload a video to discord or google drive, or I move it onto my video editor, in the preview it plays fine.

That depends on your hardware.

GPU
750/950 GTX partial HEVC hardware decoding
Radeon RX 460 and up
1030 GTX and up

CPU
6th Gen Intel
5th Gen Intel 8-bit hybrid
AMD Carizzo APU

Video Encode and Decode GPU Support Matrix

I generally stick with VLC as a player though since it's pretty flexible with plugins and codec options.

Thanks, I have an AMD Rx 580 gaming x 8gb and an intel i5-9600k. I’m pretty sure my system specs are in my signature.
