Question Melted/Oxidized PCI-E cable for GPU

While I'm still dealing with warranty, my main question remains how does this even happen?
I've seen similar threads and the usual problem it's either PSU is low quality or low power or just an old PC that needed a replacement. My pc is barely 1 year old and I though the PSU was good enough.
Max temps for GPU are around 80 C, I didn't OC anything, I actually even forgot to activate XMP for my RAM. To be honest I barely opened my pc since I got it, the only thing that could be relevant is that I added a cable for a HDD into PSU.
Could be just a faulty cable/PSU? If that's the case wouldn't it broke down much earlier?
 
Doesn't look melted.
Just a damaged cable. Probably wires have been pulled with too much force and this has resulted in them being stripped of isolation.

Wires need to be reinserted and crimped properly.
