Question Memory Issue - Lenovo Thinkpad 15-IIL

We have multiple Lenovo Thinkpad 15-IIL laptops at work. We're currently in the process of upgrading their memory to 16gb from 8gb.

This particular model has one DIMM slot.

On one laptop whenever I swap out to a 16gb memory stick it will not POST. Just a black screen. The back lights on the keyboard light up which is normal but then it hangs at this point and doesn't progress.

I've flashed the bios to the most recent version, reimaged the laptop twice.

The memory stick has been tested in another duplicate device and works fine.

Weird thing is as soon as I put the 8gb stick back in the laptop boots immediately.

Is there anything I'm missing or do I put this down to mobo roulette and just accept it's not going to upgrade? (The warranty is well past).

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

Can you pass on a link to the ram you're working with(both the old stick and the new one)?

reimaged the laptop twice.
Can you elaborate on this?

Since you're able to disassemble the laptop, disconnect the internal battery, remove the stick of ram, and press and hold down the power button for 30secs. Reseat the ram but power up using the power adapter. See if that helps. Also, you can take an eraser on the stick of ram's gold contacts to wipe it clean, then reseat the stick of ram.
