Memory, Latitude C640

Just got a nice refurbed C640 off Ebay. Works great, solid
performer, 11 months Dell Gold warranty left, but 256MB RAM just didn't
cut it.

Off to Kingston's site I went. First looked at their 'Tagged for
Dell' memory, and nearly fell out of my chair at seeing $172 for a 512MB
SODIMM name-branded for the Latitude C6xx series.

Went over to Fry's next day. Found Kingston's 'ValueRAM' 512MB
SODIMMs to be much cheaper -- $84 or so each. Bought two ('cause they
didn't have the 1GB part in stock in any brand that I trusted) with some
trepidation, half-expecting that they wouldn't work.

Surprise, surprise! They worked GREAT! So, for only about $10 more
than the price I would have paid for ONE of the name-branded parts, I
got a full gig of RAM in the system.

For others who may want to try this same trick, the specific part
number you want is: KVR266SO/512R. You might even be able to find a
better deal online by Googling for that part number.

So much for 'name branding.' Keep the peace(es).

This is a general observation, I did the same for my HP NC 6000 laptop
(centrini 1.6 Mhz) with 512 Mb valueram Kingston. Works great.

My 2 cents
