boots up and i ran MemLog for few minutes and it reports
that "Available memory in MBytes" = 238 or so...shouldn't
it reports somewhat closer to 512MB??? how much RAm is
consumed by the operating system and how much is
available for applications???

Windows 2000 server takes about 64 Mo of RAM.

It is very possible that many services and processes are
taking the rest that you seem to be missing...
