Question Memory nomenclature

When reading the attach link (as an example) https://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z170M Pro4S/index.us.asp#Memory I am a bit confused. As an example if you look at DDR4 Corsair 2800 4GB CMK16GX4M4A2800C16R SS 2 pcs. it would seem to mean 2 pcs of 4gb memory, or 8gb. However, when I search the memory module number, it shows it is 4 pcs of 4gb memory or 16gb. How can both be right?

According to their chart it means that the memory will run in dual channel with two pieces, its not an indication of kit size.

Is there some obvious reason the link would not show the CMK8GX4M2A2800C16R kit, which appears to be the same memory as CMK16GX4M4A2800C16R kit, but with 2x 4gb kit rather than 4 x4gb kit?

Memory lists are generally never complete, so Im not surprised a kit isnt listed.

Okay, so the list is just an indication of the compatibility of memory module that comes in the kit, not the kit size itself.

More or less, yes. The modules themselves are not going to be different, like you said.
The comparability listings typically just scrape the most popular kits and test them, beyond that almost any kit will work, but they didnt invest the time.
